but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

Brent Shaver

Have been watching it for a while now.

It is like an earthquake, just hope the aftershocks arent to large.

The tinfoil hat brigade is out in full force on the comment section of the CNN website claiming the US gov't/military is lying and the evidence will be photoshopped. I wonder if they realize that a single video showing Binladen alive would likely bring down the administration. Zealots are zealots it seems, no matter where they're from :P

I was walking down the street and a man was hammering on a roof top and he called me a Paranoid Little Weirdo. . . in morse code.

LOL, I read zeolites when i read this quickly the first time and was confused at how zeolites relate to bin laden :P

It is somewhat shocking to hear that he was found in a million dollar mansion on the outskirts of Pakistan's capital. This almost confirms that the Pakistani government knew of Bin Laden's whereabouts and likely helped harbour this criminal. This won't go down too well with the American people or diplomatic circles...
Glad he was hunted down, despite being 9.5 years late - not much of an impact now, other than his retirement was cut short.

+1 - Agreed there is no way they didn't know he was there! They were talking last night about him he was 6' 4" and his face scene worldwide someone in all that time would have had to have know he was in there. His appearance was a stand out not easy to conceal. Totally bad for relations for sure. I was watching the hockey game when there was a sudden news break. Just as the day of 9/11 I will always remember where I was when I heard this news too.

With a 50+ million dollar bounty on his head I really don't think many people knew where he was...

There is already speculation that the Americans announced this as a joint operation with Pakistan so that a. Pakistan could save face and b. So that the US won't have to answer to the international community why it was operating a clandestine operation within the borders of a sovereign foreign country.

Either way I'm glad they finally found him and at the same time saddened to see the jubilation of the masses over the murder of an entire family, regardless of the crimes of the father.

+1  I would not use the word murder... they all knew who he was, what he did and what he was capable of doing. It is all sad to be honest but I am sorry I have no sympathy for the devil or his disciples. Your guilty by association - if your with a a murderer when they commit the crime your just as guilty as the one who committed the crime.

I actually heard the word 'assassination' on CNN last night. I know, by some definitions, it fits, but it just sounds so wrong.

In a free and democratic society a person is charged with a crime, tried for that crime by a jury of their peers and then sentenced to a punishment that befits the crime they committed.  That punishment, depending on the jurisdiction, could be death (as in the case of Saddam Hussein who was captured and brought to trial and then hung). To charge someone with a crime and then hunt and kill them without satisfying the burden of proof in a fair trial is murder. In the case of Bin Laden it was justified, but to call it anything but murder is wrong. The images of people dancing in the streets in the middle east ten years ago flashed into my head as I watched the news last night, and I found it ironic that the same people who were decrying the attitude of ten years ago were now behaving the same way.

I'm not saying that they deserve sympathy...

Here's an angle that some aren't thinking of:

A: He died in combat...to his followers, this makes him a hero

B: So what he's dead.  There are a whole chain of people who are just waiting for the top spot.  Who knows what kind of crazy schemes they also have cooking.

C: They have a HUGE reason to retaliate

As awful as he was, I feel no safer now that he has been killed.  I have friends and clients who are on the front lines of the middle east threats, protecting the rest of us.  The stories I hear and the things they go through...wow.  His death is nothing.  He's one man.
