PH abnormally high

Hi,

I don't know if its because of the work on the replacements for the water lines, but has anyone else in Barrhaven noticed the PH being abnormally high.

Normally, my water out of the tap is high, but because it does not have much buffer it would drop within a day of so.  My Tanks were kept about 6.5 and now nothing goes they are steady at 7.8.  The only change I've made is add a bag of Eco complete substrate to one tank in my system. I heard this stuff may raise the ph, but does 1 bag have enough to buffer a 250 gallon system?

your thoughts are welcomed.

I tested my tapwater a couple weeks ago (Longfields area) and got a reading ~8.2.  My test kit is pretty old though, maybe that affected my reading.

I can confirm that Eco complete can raise your PH after using it for several years, not saying it is in your case giving the current water supply upgrades, that said one way to check if it is the Eco complete, is to put some in a small container of tap water, check the parameters of the tap water before & after it has sat in the container for a few days preferably with some turbulence ( air stone or other)

I meant put some tap water in a small container not the eco. :), if the ph drops after this test it might be safe to aasume it`s the eco or something in the tank causing it to buffer high.

Your right, i have noticed the same with eco complete, but i have a feeling that the barrhaven water works is having a compound effect.  The 50 gallon drum that i use for water changes has high ph even after a week or circulation, I was just looking for confirmation from others.  Unfortunately, I think I will sit tight and wait until the work is done, then cross the bridge at that time and see my options, maybe ro/di or something.

Thanks for your input.

Curious if you changed your water change strategy, legapeg.  I tested my Barrhaven tapwater  this morning.. consistent with the 8.2 measured back in June.
