We were downtown for the Royals visit. I am not star struck just wanted to see the Snowbirds & Big Cmy wife and son wanted to see the couple. We never got close enough to see the band and the Snowbirds were a disappointment - oh well. We headed off to Major's Hill Park. After some cruising and a Great Canadian Chicken Sandwich (yummy) we decided to leave. We got to Sussex Drive and bang the cops closed the barricades trapping us for 45 minutes on that side of the street but we were right at the curb - talk about luck. After a long hot wait the motorcade started by I was able to snap the up close picture below.

My son was videoing the motorcade with his new fangeled HD Camcorder - I wanted to shot it but it is his camera... when Will & Kate's car drove past Will waved my son waved back and the camera was all over the place except on the couple... what a kid... LOL No matter between us we got a classic shot. Even though I'm not a star gazer it was cool to capture the picture so close up.

I was lost somewhere in the Red Sea today and haven't looked at my photos yet.  Might be something of value but I doubt it.  I enjoyed a quick visit to the Supreme Court Building before wading through the sea of red to eventually arrive at the corner of Wellington and Metcalfe.  Had much better success on Thursday at the Cenotaph.

I chuckled when I read out the wave and the camera going everywhere but not on target. As the motorcade was flying past today , I was holding my camera as high as I could and shooting rapidly.  I got a pretty nice shot of a car tire, a set of knees by the barricade across from me, a few heads and a flag or two but not the royal couple :-)

Nice shot Ron what time did you get there?

Yeah I had a lot of top of the head shots, car tires, curbs, lamp posts and whatever else but nothing except the one below. Maybe if my arms were longer... LOL

The young lad didn't say he was upset or disappointed but I know he was. He was excited when he shot it and said, "I got him - I got him" with a huge smile. I felt bad for him. he's getting pretty interested in photography maybe our next move is to get a fair DSLR... can you say Boxing Day?

Dan: Time is irrelevant if you are having fun  8)
On the Thursday I left Kanata at about 1:50PM and parked close to the Museum of Nature and walked down to Queen and Elgin.  Then on Friday I left home at about 11AM and parked well up on Bronson, and then stopped into the Supreme Court Bldg before heading into the sea of red.  Probably about 11:30 or 11:45 when I was somewhere among the masses on Metcalfe.

I uploaded the story of my Canada Day downtown adventures this evening: http://www.megapixeltravel.com/2011/07/canada-day-july-1st-2011-the-downtown-sea-of-red/.  Stayed out in Kanata for the evening's entertainment on Canada Day.  Sloan was the featured entertainment on-stage in Kanata and going downtown once on Canada Day was enough for me.

Fabulous pictures Ron!  I stayed home...simply because unless I'm in the front row, I'm too short to see anything. ;D

That's funny - timing is everything ...

I went down to The Hill & shared a half-hour with 300,000 friends, almost 1km from the Royals.
Then I headed down Sussex.

By the time I got to the GG's, the police were closing down the road.
I waited 10mins & had the same view as you, Dan, but from the other side of the road. I could see HRH waving, but the window on my side was rolled up.

I have a nice video of a dark car, with a dark window from 10 feet away. LOL
But "I" saw the wave!

Sorry about the lack of photo evidence ...
