Hi everyone,

I just got myself a 100G tank used with filter, stand, hood/bulbs.  I'm wondering, should I get a bubbler?  With my 25g and 20g, I never had a bubbler, but the filtration system that I have for my 100g doesn't produce any bubbles.  So wasn't sure if I should add a bubbler.

As well, do you guys use crushed coral as your substrate- I put gravel on top and my trumpet snails seem ok.  Just never used cruched corral for bedding.

Thanks!

Crushed coral is a good ph buffer. What type of fish do you plan to keep?

Fishnut

I never use crushed coral because I don't keep fish that requires a high PH.  If you're keeping african cichlids, that's going to be a great substrate, but everything else doesn't really require it.

As far as the bubbler is concerned, if you like the look of it, add one!  As long as the surface of the water is rippling, there should be enough oxygen exchange.

Sorry didn't get to you guys!

I ended up getting rid of the corral- well, most of it, there's a bit here and there, but overall gone and replaced with sand.  I have easy fish like rasboras, platies, mollies, a betta, shrimps and tons of snails.  I got rid of it because read it's a sponge when it comes to waste, etc. and could cut the delicate lips/barbels of bottom feeders.  I don't have any bottom feeders right now, but was concerned for my snails and shrimp and sometimes my platies will feed from the bottom.

Per the bubbler, I ended up getting one- and the fish LOVE it!!  I didn't realize they would actually enjoy swimming in it, etc.  They all think it's great.  Even the betta is in there- and though he's not a strong swimmer, he still loves the ride.

So now I have to figure out my heater.  I had two and had to disconnect one because it was just heating the tank at abnormal temps- close to frying my fish- poor things!!  But now I only have one heater, a 30g.  I realize it's not a 100g heater but it's set at 76F and the water has been consistently 76F.  Very strange.  So now wondering if I should invest in a 100g heater.
