What to do with my car.

Anyone have ideas on what I should do with my car. It's been parked for over a year and I'd like to get it out of my garage but I don't want to just have it towed to be junked.  It's still a nice car and in very good shape and was running fine last year. I had paid someone to repair the brakes but they ended getting it towed instead and now hundreds of dollars in tows and fines later I just don't have the patience to start over.

I know I can probably sell it on Kijiji but don't want to go through the aggravation of waiting for people, haggling etc..

Are there any businesses that pick cars up to restore or fix up to sell. Any places that accept them as donations. I might even consider keeping it if I could find someone willing to work on it without charging garage rates.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

As far as I know, a number of charities will pick up the car and give you a receipt for its "fair value" - this can be used as a charitable donation tax credit.

Your brother could use another vehicle - at least one with a functioning muffler.   ;D

My brother was the one who got it towed so I won't be going down that road again. ::)

My dad has (had?) an old Pontiac GTP that he had hauled away to a wrecker and he got $400 in his pocket.  That old car had seen better days, though.  Yours looks pretty nice in that picture.

Judging by the pictures I'd look up the fair value and knock a thousand or two off and put it on autotrader citing the issues it has. People on autotrader tend to be more serious than the ones who browse the free sites...
I haz reef tanks.

What does it NEED for repairs?

Oooh - if you put an ad in Autotrader, you can have fun with the Nigerian Prince who will try to scam you.  It's real fun!!

He'll want to buy your car, sight unseen - because he's out of town.  But he will make arrangements for a mover to come get the car.  Then he will put your asking price + a little bit in escrow with Paypal until you go in and wire him "the little bit" to release the rest of the funds.

I had fun with that guy when I sold a car last year.  It was great when I started getting emails from the "FBI Department of Paypal - on behalf of that guy" accusing me of trying to scam him! :)  These emails actually lasted for about 2 months.

So ya - if you are going that route, ignore any emails that ask if you accept paypal. :)

So I should call him back to cancel  :)

I think I'm going to advertise for a week or so then look at the donation/wrecker option

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, this is what I was hoping for.

When I parked it, it needed brakelines and possibly calipers but who knows now that it's been sitting so long. It really is a beautiful car and in great shape for 20 years old (I bought it in '97), that's why I've hesitated for so long and bounced back and forth on whether to restore or sell/donate.

way, way back in the day, people used to donate their old cars to the high school auto shop so we could learn to fix them....perhaps there is some school who could take it to fix up....
or perhaps x to the z could pimp your ride
