Xbox 360 questions

My son is asking for an XBox 360 with Kinect for Christmas. I've got two main questions.

1.  Our Sony 42" HD TV is 7 years old and doesn't have HDMI input. Will the picture quality be ok with the HDMI cable setup?

2.  How far from the TV should you be for the Kinect to work properly?  We have an issue of a couch that is in the way.

The picture quality will still be good with component cables (blue/green/red connectors, not yellow) instead of HDMI.

No personal experience, but the manual calls for minimum 6ft for one player, 8ft for 2 players.

Need LOTS of room for the kinect!!! move the sofa? hehe we have to when we play!
he is little though, so it might be ok...but if you play...might need more room
