I have an aquatic life t5ho dual fixture.  I'm taking one bulb out, to keep this tank lower light/slow growing, no fert/co2.  (for now anyways!)

Would you take out the 6700K or the 10000K, and then what kind of photoperiod would you start with?

Thanks for any and all different suggestions!

Folks say that 6700K will let the plants grow more leggy, while they stay more bushy 10000K. But this only really matters if the light intensity is high as well.

In your case I would go with the bulb that is more pleasant to you eye. 6700K will give you a nice neutral green; I personally prefer that. The 10000K bulb will be more on the blueish side.

As for photo period, anything between 6-12 hours goes. I run my tanks at 8 hours. The longer the light is on, the more likely nutrition imbalance (read: algae) occurs.
be aware of the green side

what size is your tank in gallons? and what is the wattage of each bulb?

The tank is 59 glns, i had one like it   ;)
Like Fischkopp said try them both & see which one appeals to you, from personal experience i did not notice much difference if any with the growth.
I use to run my 59 gln with 2 x54 watts for 8 hrs & a third one for 3 hrs  from 2 -5.
Was able to grow all the high light plants i tried

Good info, thanks.  I'll try them both independently tomorrow.

Charlie, I'm not going near 3 bulbs anytime soon.  You're the planted tank version of the adrenaline junkie.  ;)

That i am  ;D, but i was not impling you go 3 bulbs  ;), just showing reference what can be done with 2.25 bulbs ;), so 1bulb might be just right for your plans & plants  ;).
The other alternative is to raise the fixture  with both bulbs if you like the 10,000/,6700 K combo.
