Does a Natural Gas Hot Water Heating System use any hydro what so ever?

Some might have an electric starter, but that's about it.  Many still just have a pilot light though.  Not a single electrical wire running to my water heater.

How do they pump the water through the system?

Pressure, same as the cold water in the system.

Oh - some might use an electric fan to vent air.

I actually just a got a reply from an email I sent Enbridge and it said yes for ignition and circulation pump.

I ask because there are three units in the house we live in but there are only three hydro meters? Had to sell my s/w setup to save money because of hydro costs there have got to be more costs besides what we were using. So three meters where is the 4th for things running in common areas and the heating system?

If there are only three meters in the house then I would assume that the common element stuff like the heating system would have to be on one of them.
If you live in a house that was converted into 3 apartments then I would assume that whom ever lives in the main area or main floor has the common elements on theirs.
Go check your electrical panel, if its labeled correctly then it should tell you if its you that is paying. If it is not labeled properly then I would shut off the main breaker and see if the common areas/ items are still running.

Hope this helps

Don't turn the fan off!  It's there to avoid a build up of the fumes from burning the gas.  Turning it off is a safety risk.

when we had natural gas we'd shut the whole thing off...gas too

We do not have access to the panel when we want. The panels are old and a mess in my eyes not labelled. The access to them is in basement apt. and right now no one living there. I had to go there a couple times when fuses blew when I had my s/w setup. I did take pictures though. Here is the boiler I have others of meters and panel. Anyone recognixze this system know anything about wattage used, etc.?

The hot water tank? Or are you talking about a furnace?

bt

Well, that one definitely uses electricity.  Can't help on the power draw, unfortunately.

Nerine

did you ask hydro? I know they aren't much help!! but as everyone said it's probably on the meter of whoever lives on the main floor??

and you sure don't want to be paying for someone else's bills!!

Is that even legal? What would you do in an emergency?

Well Hydro will do nothing nor can they tell you over the phone what is on what meter. They say get an electrician to come in and test what is what circuit.

I was able from the picture to pull off the name of the boiler so I contacted them. After some back and forth and picture enlargement I determined the name of the pump it is Grundfos. The boiler manufacturer told me the one they would recommend for that unit but it was a guess because the model of the boiler was not certain. The wattage for the pump they suggested would be for a 1/12 HP 145 watts. It could be up to 1/6 HP which would be 235 watts.

There may also be an commercially flue plus the other electric components like servos for water switching and switches period.

It is obvious such a device would be working through peak periods all the time b/c that is when it is coldest.

The other thing I learned this boiler and all it's components are suppose to be on it's own breaker or fuse that is almost impossible in this dog's breakfast of a wiring mess.

We are almost ready to drop the bombshell with servicing him with a application before the Rental Tribunal of Ontario - RTO. Crappy part about this we had to go through a landlord fight about 7 or 8  years ago with a horrible landlord. I do not look forward to the tension it creates. You are protected but you end up moving b/c things are so tense. BTW in the end it ended up costing the landlord $33,000 plus and we didn't pay full rent for 7 months that included two free months.
