Last week someone came by and bought the last of my beloved saltwater setup. :-( x 1,000,000 Due to a financial crisis I was forced to shut it down and then sell it all off. There was some hope I might be able to put it back up I'd just need to add new livestock but the crisis hasn't ended.

I built it from the proceeds of selling off 16 setups: 3 hi-tech planted, 1 basic planted, a 2.5g micro planted and the rest were in a fishroom where I raised CPDs, shrimp, sherbai cories and South American cichlids. There were also 3 tanks not setup 2 QT when needed and a spare for moving or holding whatever. I had a black water generator for my cichlid tanks that was unique. The entire s/w setup in the end was an investment of $5000. I did not recoup all of that but you never do.

Thank you to all those who bought items from me. A special thanks goes out to all those who offered me kind words of condolences because it was a great loss to me. Maybe when things recover financially down the road I will be able to put something together. For now I must say it is sad times! In fact it was last Thursday the final big pieces went out the door and it is only today I can post about. That day marked the point of no return.

So in the end it is a sad day period to look and there is no tank. To listen and not hear the sound of water. I miss not having the daily duties I had of caring for my tank and its charges. It leaves a void in my day - it truly does!

I am so sorry about this.  I hope that you can get back into the hobby sometime in the future.

Once a fish guy - always a fish guy, Dan.  You'll have new tanks set up in no time.

Kudos for being responsible enough to realize where you had money burning and doing something about it.  So many people who run into financial problems wouldn't have this much sense.

I've run across so many people, particularly in playing World of Warcraft who run into financial difficulty one way or another - and still manage to scrape together enough money to continue playing the game - rather than putting that money to "proper" use...

I'm glad you still frequent the forums and offer your years of knowledge to newbies like myself!

Severum

I hope we still see you around the forum and once thsi crsis is averted you're back into the saltwater game.

The hobby will always be here waiting for you to come back. It's not going anywhere.

sorry to hear Dan.  It's hard to give up what you love.

Cheebs

Bummer Dan, but clearly you still love the hobby, so I know there's a good chance you'll get back into it one day. I hope all the financial stuff works out, make sure you stick around the forums for sure!

Sorry to hear of your troubles Dan.  Good luck and I hope that the future will bring a change of circumstances.

WHEN you get back on your feet and are ready to set up that next tank, let us know.  I'm sure that many of us can pitch in with a frag or two to help you get going.

Sorry to hear that you had to get out of the hobby. In fact, I still have the rusty cichlid that I bought from you a couple of years ago. He was the only rusty, besides my yellow lab and demasoni, that survived a major whoopsy that I had a year and a half ago when I did a water change.

Sorry to hear Dan. I'm attempting to breed CPD's so hopefully when I have fry and you have a FW tank back up and running I could help you out and send some your way.
Cheers,
Brendan

I've been in and out of the hobby numerous times in the past 40 years.  Never easy!

Come out to the Giant Auction in March and help me sell raffle tickets.  That way you will be too busy to think about buying anything  8).

If you ever need any tips with the CPD let me know. I was the first in town to have a lot of success with these lovely characters.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words in here and in PMs! I guess helping others doesn't go unnoticed... :-) Same as you guys who offered me help you too will receive the same kindness if you ever have times of need. Aquarium hobbyists stick together through wet or dry times... LOL

Hey Dan- Sorry to hear that you've fallen on some hard times. Hope everything works out for ya. No worries...it always does.

Do you have any tanks left?

I shut down my saltwater tank 6-7 months ago and I am now starting to really miss it. I 'm thinking about only keeping two tanks - one fresh one salt. If I do go that route, I'll have some frags for you when you get back to the salty world.
