Thinking of putting a catfish or betta... any suggestions? 70 gal tank with 10inch koi... =)

Shawn84

The koi would just eat the betta alive.
A bunch a fishes.....
A bunch a tanks...........

Some plecos are tropical meaning they need warmer water, and koi are cold water species, I'd suggest keeping them with their own kind or other goldfish types.
Eric...
125g, 32g, 7g

Another koi or a single tail goldfish...the commets, sarasas or shubunins.  I wouldn't bother with a catfish.

If you have your tank properly set up for your koi (4x the filtration recommended for the tank size and lots of water flow), it is not an appropriate home for a betta...the betta will not be able to swim against the current.

That koi is going to outgrow that tank 70 gallon in no time.  They grow HUGE!  As in 18 - 24", not including the tail fin!  I have mine temporarily in a 180 and they're running out of space.  Pond keeps getting pushed forward.  Now I have to wait for spring.
:(

Do your koi a favour and get it in a pond, then fill your tank with more appropriate aquarium fish.

A 70g tank is no place for a 10" koi. They are social fish and perfer to be with other kio, goldies or shubunkins to live a long healthy happy life.

Yes.. i know that a 70 gallon isno place for a10inch koi.. Its been on the 30 gal for a long time andi kinda got forced to buy a bigger tank coz i felt bad for.him... my dad wanted to keep him in the 30 gal.. i kinda just want to experiment for possible tankmate.. i just want to make the tank look more lively.. im thinking of putting a blue crayfish... i am planning to build a pond tho but not anytime soon.. Maybe next summer..

Darth

then maybe its time to give the fish up a 30 gal for a 10 in fish is cruel a 70 gal is a bitter better , and either you have 2 koi or this one shrunk cause your sig says 12" koi  :P

Cbellehumeur

the koi will eat the crayfish!

Fishnut

A crayfish is a bad idea.  Either it will get eaten or it will pinch bits off your koi.

To be blunt, just leave the koi as a single fish until you have an appropriate home for it.   I'm glad you got it a bigger tank but it isn't big enough, especially if you want to liven things up by adding other species.

You can buy Rubbermaid stock tanks from Ritchee Feed and Seed.  I forget how much they are.  I bought a 150 gallon one and used it for my fish for a little while.  Get all the supplies for the pond and use the stock tank as a temp solution until you build a proper pond.  Then transfer the fish and all the filtration supplies to the pond.  You'll have to get a floating heater for it during the winter though.

I estimated the size of thel koi when i put up my sig! but when i measured him hes just 10 inch! Its not.really my koi but my dads... and hes a know it all kind of guy.. he even wanted me to put the koi on the tank the day i set it up... He kinda gave me a hard time trying to convince him that a 30g is no good for the fish.. im gona get bitched at real bad if i put him on a 100++ gallon tub.. he wants a aquarium... wanted a 100 gal tank but i dont have euf space for it... want to sell it to big als or donate him to someone who can take care if him but my dads too attached to him so i wont..
Isnt the floating heater a deicer or they are two diff things?

70g tank is just temporary.. pond is on the way.. maybe nxt summer..

cray fish is no good huh.. so im guessing amano shrimp is no good too..

Fishnut

Lol...that sucks your hands are tied.  Your dad should be talking to us 8)

Yeah...amano shrimp = Koi food
