Hi all,
Any idea that I can find this ¼ " clear netting in Canada?
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/clear-1-4-screen-netting-7-x-3.html

Try to build a mesh lid for my tank. Egg crates with too big holes to prevent my little jumpers through..
Glass and plastic tops are not ideal due to lighting diffusion and air blocking...

Many Thanks,

Steve

I think the 'clear' mesh is really just for aesthetics.. You could use the black fibre-glass screening from canadian tire etc. or even the aluminum one.. which is what i used to make a screen top for my rimless nano recently.. less noticeable but its a pain to work with compared to the fibre-glass screen.

Home Depot has it in black and with 1/2" squares.

If you have the proper cutters, you can try making something with these lighting louvers.

Hookup

Home Hardware has black 1/4" where as Home Depot and Rona only seems to have 1/2". Big difference for small fish jumpers. Check Home Hardware online catalogue, it's pretty extensive.

Hookup

have to be 1/4" or nothing... IMO anyhow

If you take two pieces of 1/2" mesh and double it up but stagger the top layer, you can make a mesh lid with 1/8" openings.

Something that I use is one of those loufa sponges from the drugstore.  They come in clear and when they are stretched out the holes are no bigger than about 1/4".

When you buy one, cut the string which keeps it wrapped up in a bunch and it should unroll as one long "tube" of mesh.  Cut a length of the tube off that will be long enough to do your whole tank (keeping in mind it is very stretchy) and then cut it length wise so you have a "sheet" of netting rather than a "tube" of it.  You can even tie up what's left of the loufa and keep it as a smaller loufa as there is usually quite a bit left.

I've done 18" wide tanks with ease with it and will be trying a 24" wide tank this week.  Just stretch it across a DIY screen kit from a local hardware store and your done.

Good luck!

This sounds good in theory, but once you stretch it out and jam it into the screen frame I am guessing not all of your screen top will be lined up properly leaving large holes in some areas. Just guessing though. It may be worth a try, other than you can get 1/4" black in Ottawa too so you might as well just get that.
