Got a sweet deal on a really cool tank today.

48"x12"x12"

Lighting is going to be 4x54w T5HO

I haven't had much time to work on it or plant much yet...But I'll be working on it over the next few days for sure.  So excited!

The 33L is a very nice tank. I set up one of these as a high-current tank a few years back, and it's still going. Add a large school of tetras and watch them going back and forth in the tank. Quite a sight! You will have a lot of fun with this tank!

I have seen fischkopp`s tank & one other from fishnut, really nice  tank.
Consider your tank`s height & the amount of light over it (4x54 watts), makes it harder to balance things with so much intensity over such a shallow tank.

Very nice!  I have been keeping my eye open for a 24 gal long (36"x12"x12") for some time, but you don't see too many of these long narrow short tanks (and yours) too often.  Great find!

Please please please, I hope you keep checking this thread to help me if I get stuck.  I am currently only running 2 bulbs until the plants get going.  This of course has nothing to do with the fact that I only managed to find 2 of the 4 bulbs I wanted;)  But I will start slow.

Thanks!  I love my plants:) This is the main reason I'm so excited about this tank.  With barely any hardscape I will have room for TONS of plants!

Lol I have very little scaping skills.  I would love to do something nice...But for now I will settle for just growing lots of stuff.

I am thinking of using this as a dwarf cichlid tank...opinions?  Here are pics of the fishes I would like to re-house in this tank.  My "sunset"? as well as my cockatoo and his girlfriend.

And to everyone else I haven't responded to, thanks for the positive comments and stay tuned for pictorial updates.  It's crazy cloudy now but I will post pics with more plants later today as I work over my other tanks.

I believe the sunset may have been local.  Not sure, I'd have to check.  I'm really hoping it turns out to be a male.  It acts like one.

Sorry, it's a female for sure. With attitude in your case. I find that apisto's form the "baenschi" complex (body shape) tend to be more aggressive/determined to defend their territory.

Like how the tank is coming along. For keeping several apistos in there I would try to break the "line of sight" a bit more by adding more rocks/wood/big leaf plants.

Awww nuts.  I was hoping it would color and shape up to be male.  I'll have to keep my eyes open now for another...Or see what happens when I add the cacatuoids??? Is this a possibility?  I'm embarassed to ask, I really dont know:(

As for breaking the line of sight....I'm hoping to plant the tank to the point where the plants arent visible for the plants and plants and plants.  Hopefully this works and is an acceptable solution to hardscape?  I'm happy to finally have somewhere to put all my trimmings.  Compost is such a dirty word

I have seen apisto females developing male features after dominated males passed away. But in most cases they would not look like a mature male. Not sure if they change sex fully, not what triggers it; it remains one of the stranges things I experienced. I have seen this with three different apisto species.

I think the tank is big enough to house several apisto. 2-3 pairs for smaller/calmer apisto species should find enough space. It depends a bit on the personality of the apisto I find. If in doubt, add more. Bigger numbers are always better as aggression is spread over more individuals.

I agree in the lighting comment.  I think 4 would be too much for a tank of that depth.
