I do not know if this information was posted here before.

http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_python.php

Just read this article. I've just built one like this, with total cost much lower than python.

Jason

How is it working for you so far?
135g - Malawi Cichlid Tank
120g - Soon to be planted community tank
108g - Planted tropical tank

valiko

Very good.

Except that I forgot to put the shut-off valve and had to run to the kitchen to turn the water off :)

I can post some pictures, but they are not that different from the one in the article.

PS: I've bought Waterbed drain/fill kit in the Sleepers waterbed store on St. Laurent. They might sell them elsewhere.

I've always heard that you have to be careful regarding the type of garden hose you use.  I would assume that the anti-fungal additives could be harmful, as well as any metals, etc.

For anyone doing a DIY python...

The same clear vinyl tubing I have seen for sale on rolls at Home Hardware.  They can cut to whatever length you want.  Sorry, didn't get the price.  I gave up trying to figure out a safe / cost effective way to do this to my satisfaction and just bought a Python when they were on sale.

valiko

I've bought clear vinyl tubing, 32 cents/foot. I've asked the sales person  and he said that it should be safe for the drinking water.

And the tubing is in the plumbing section, not gardening.

I do not think there are any additives.

Here how it looks like. Basically everything is there, but the tube and tube fitting.

I tried Canadian Tire, Wal mart, Home Depot, all looking for that damn waterbed kit, all didn't have it.  Probably because Waterbeds just aren't very popular anymore.

Jim

i guess the sleepers waterbed store is the only place that we know of that has it eh.

valiko

ebay got them too ...

charlie

That kit is 12.99 @ sleepers, you only need the pump ( lge pc) & maybe the facet adaptor, the 2nd largest pc is not needed that is for the bed, the pump @ big als is 11.99 , not a big difference in price but a few pennies cheaper.

I got mine at Wal Mart about 2 months ago ($6 or so).  Don't remember which store, however.   :?  It was either in Ottawa or in Gatineau.   hehe

All of that comes in the Wal Mart box for about $6-7, plus you get a bottle of water conditioner that you can give to someone who has a waterbed.
