I was lucky enough to be given a 20 long by a co-worker last week.  Dimensions 12x12x36.

I originally test filled it on the bathroom floor and left it for an hour or so.  No leaks!

Got my filter, heater, misc supplies etc etc

Today I set about filling it with dirt and stuff, carefully siphoning in water....The gf came home and we had dinner...

And I went downstairs to a flooded room and half empty tank:(:(:(  Grrrrrrr  It leaked!!!  Front centre bottom.

Now that the mess is cleaned up and drying(capet)....To re-seal or buy new?

Its a pretty common foot print and one can be had used for $25ish usually - not sure if I'd invest time and effort as well as cost of supplies to fix it up. I did my 25 and I know it was a pain.. only worth it because it has the same foot print of the 20 Long but is 16" tall and it isn't a common tank (when i was looking anyways and of course impatience causes you to make assumptions :p) so I guess mine was worth it by a hair strand. If you like projects then I'd say go for it. If not, lay a garbage bag on the bottom, lay the dirt and make it your emersed plant set up :p

$69 or so for a brand new tank, makes it not worth the time or the risk in my opinion.

wrm130

Problem solved....sorted itself....kindof....

With the tank still full of wet dirt I moved it to the laudry area, near the floor drain.  When I checked this AM the glass had cracked in one of the upper corners.  That answers that question(seal or buy new)

I've purchased another 20 long.  Unfortunately I couldnt find another 36" :(  Had to go with 30x12x12

On the plus side, the new tank is now filling so I'll have something to show soon.  Hopefully.

Guess it serves me right for not re-sealing/gluing everything first.

Sorry, that's disappointing.  :(
Good luck with the brand new build.

Perfecto calls the 36x12x12 a 30 long, Big Als on Innes had a couple last time I was there... mind you it's been a while

If you don't mind spending a few more bucks for the nature aquarium look, you can get yourself a nice starphire rimless tank.

I checked Petsmart and Big Als.  Even got Karen to check the computer for me.  The closest I could get was the 30x12x12 :(

My gf would kill me lol.  7 tanks plus her tank are expensive enough lol.  What do you mean "nature aquarium look"?

Do a google image search for nature aquarium by takashi amano. Nothing rivals the rimless look imo.

I did, I saw lots of gorgeous planted tanks.  Soooo is a 'nature aquarium' basically just a nicely planted tank?  A rimless tank would be beautiful but cost aside, I wouldnt/couldnt do it justice anyways.

Was she looking for a 20 long for you though? It wouldn't show up on the system there if she put in 20... The 30 gal standard is 36x12x12 IIRC

EDIT: the more I think about it, the more sure I am that it was 36x12x15/16... it would make more sense mathematically too.. Maybe I'm going nuts and thy don't exist.

Key word in that statement, "Takashi Amano", of course it looks good, have you ever seen a tank by him that doesn't look amazing? Unlimited funding has it's perks.

A nice 25g rimless starphire goes for about $150. What you choose to put in there, and how you aquascape it, is probably more a question of artistic talent.

Also, to add to what Rob was saying, perfecto does make a 30 gal but the dimensions are 36x 13x 16 ...

Maybe check aquatica in Montreal? I swear I've seen them somewhere and aquatica has been carrying some different sized tanks lately

I crashed my truck last night.  All tank related purchases are on hold for the time being :(
