Goldfish breeders craft, produce and sell fish that can't function, and it's not the fault of buyers new to the scene when they fall for them (if you've been around the block before, you should know to avoid them). I teach in a high school where I'm known as a fish guy, and I get sad little kids bringing in deformed goldies a few times a year - there's nothing to be done. They grow to a size where they break down, and they die slowly.  It's almost like we cultivate genetic disorders for fun (and profit)- deformed goldies, balloon spinal mutations in mollies and rams, blood parrots with deformed mouths - I don't get it. We're a cruel species, sometimes.
