Hi guys :)  was a member of the forum many years ago but faded away due to life and the fact i only kept my boys single fish in my 42 gal tank for the better part of the last decade.  So my boy has his own 42 gal now and has moved his piranha out of my tank.  Right now i have a bare tank and no real plans for it so i hope to be inspired by you all.

Breeding bettas was my thing for a couple of years but i don't think that interests me anymore, it was a lot of work and at this point in my life i'm looking for something easy and low maintenance.  I'd also like to support local breeders instead of big pet stores when acquiring my new fish/plants, the same way i support local farmers instead of the grocery store for my produce.  :)

I don't recognize too many forum members, i suppose life got in the way for others as well,  but it's good to be back :)

Hi and welcome back :).
Funny how in this hobby it seems to always draw us back.
You will definitely be able to find ideas here for your 42g. We all love throwing ideas out there for new builds.
Have fun and don't forget to post your new build in the tank builds forum.

Welcome back,

Other than the fact you stated you wanted low maintenance, i would have suggested a Ree tank :P
They are fun, enjoyable and have many wicked colored corals. Technologies have progresses largely in the past 10 years, and there is a lot of knowledge here on OVAS about them. Together we could help you set-up a pretty nice and fairly automated system.... All worth it in the end to me in my eyes.

Thank you, Feivel and sas, for the warm welcome.

I haven't done a lot since last time i checked in.  I filled my tank and cycled it with a plain boring betta and just yesterday i started adding some new critters.  My tank is now home to 2 mystery snails, 5 platys and a pleco (Tomas haha) All purchased from Petsmart in Kanata.  I was very pleased with the service and selection there and the prices seemed very reasonable .  I went to Al's first but i couldn't find a common pleco or mystery snails.  My husband, who isn't a fishkeeper (and tends to be quite compulsive) , was drawn to all the saltwater fish, i won't take him back, i fear he could be easily bitten by the saltwater bug lol

My intention was to remove the betta and rehouse him in a 5gal, but he proved to be a big softie so i let him stay with the others.
