What should I do with my Amazon sword plant that has started to grow out of my 26 gallon tank?    (See picture of 26 gallon plant in my signature)

Would it survive being taken out and replanted in my 48 gallon tank?

Is it somehow possible to split the plant in half and make two plants out of it?

Well, from the pic, it doesn't look like you have two crowns.  That means splitting the plant is an unlikely option.

You can transplant the sword.  Uproot it, trim the roots back heavily, and then replant in the larger tank.  There will be some transplant shock, and you'll likely loose a few leaves.  Eventually it will kick into gear again, and end up getting too big for your 48 gallon !

Hi BD...
A question: Why trim back the roots heavily prior to a transplant? Wouldn't one want to keep an already well-developed root system to aid in rerooting? Please explain...
