Hi

I'm upgrading from a 20 to a 40 gallon osaka.

There is a eheim 2215 on the 20 gallon. Has been there a few months

My question his, can I just throw everything, with the filter, on the 40 gallons, or just a set up the 40 gallons with a different filter and wait for it to cycle?

IMO, it would be best to put the used filter onto the new tank. An Ehiem 2215 is rated for 93 gallons - more than enough for a 40 gallon tank.

I agree, I set up all my new tanks with a mature filter that has been running on another tank for at least a month.

Even better idea split the media between two tanks, get a second filter and keep the
20g running and you've got the start of MTS ;D.

You can just hook up your filter to the 40 or if you want to keep both running, you can use the filter media from the 20 to seed the 40 as well. Just place the top filter floss pad from the 2215 into the 40G and put a new one in the 2215 running on the 20G. That way you'll have 2 tanks! Haha.. Osaka tanks are awesome btw! Enjoy it!
