Everyone is talking about 1:1 ratio with their RO units. Am I the only one who has heard this is bad for your membrane?

Depends on the unit, the Vertex has a booster pump that regulates the pressure through the RO membrane which is part of what's bad for them, and it also back flushes for 20 seconds on start/finish which decreases stuff building up...which is the other thing bad for the membrane.

One other point, RO units only get 1:1 at relatively warm water.  Most of us run off a tee on a cold water supply...so I doubt I'd ever get true 1:1 anyway.

I'd study that Chloramine statement a bit more. Chloramines as you might know do not readily break down or are removed by regular activated carbon. So no, all RO filters ie: carbon do not remove most of the Chloramines.
You do not want Chloramine or Chlorine to reach your RO membrane.  CATALYTIC carbon in conjuction with block/activated carbon is needed for Chloramines

So I emailed vertex about this question after seeing online that their carbon filter was a 0 micron rated filter and they confirmed that it does remove chloramines from the water...

Hi Stuart,

Yes, the media can remove chloramines. However, this can impact the lifespan of your filter media. IE - if you water is high in chlorine and chloramines, your filter media will not last quite as long.
If you are using the deluxe unit this has a built in TDS meter so you can keep an eye on things. If you are using the regular version (no booster pump, no TDS meter) I would advise purchasing your own TDS meter so that you can monitor your water quality.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.
