I posted before I had a problem pertaining to the huge KH swing and a PH spike because of sand substrate. I was wondering if the addition of muriatic acid can control the spike and knock down the KH and PH a bit. I'll be diluting the the acid in some water and dropping bit by bit to test.

sure you can do that but it wont stay down for long.
yer best bet is to either a) acclimate the fish to PH 10.0 (which is not extraordinary for Tanganikyans)  or pull the sand

wouldn't there be an equilibrium established? will the sand have to completely disolve for the spike to be gone?
