I have been digging through OVAS looking for info and or experiences with this stuff.  Couldn't really find a thread so I thought to start one.  I have heard that it is really good at removing organics that contribute to hazy water.  Does anyone out there use it?  Any experiences pro or con?

thanks

I do.
Pros - it polishes your water crystal clear, can`t say for the organics for sure but I would like to think it does.
Cons - need to keep up with the recharging as required( sometimes I forget  & or too lazy  :))

Interesting. I have never heard of this before. Does it have similar results as using a UV sterilizer?

Thanks Charlie.  I read that it last about 6 months before recharging, is that accurate?

It will vary due to tank conditions

Quite different from a UV.
Here is the link, they are several debates about using it in a planted tank, I have suffered no ill effects from using it for a number of years

I use it for newly setup dirted tanks to keep the tank clear of tannins.  I've always found it works like magic and would have to do daily water changes for the first few weeks without it or carbon to keep the light penetrating through to my plants, especially during the "dirt bloom of growth".   Once I get through the heavy tannins, I stop using it, just because I like my tanks to be as natural as possible.  I've read that it removes very little or no trace elements (like carbon might; iron in ferric state) and it will also remove dissolved organics, water discoloration, unpleasant odors...basically similar to carbon, except it can be regenerated, lasts longer and is more costly.  It's hard to give an average functional life of Purigen between regeneration times, as many variables apply, such as the number of dissolve organics in the water, the effectiveness of mechanical filtration, and the amount Purigen used.

There has been new info floating around though, that it may not be able to be rejuvenated as much as once thought.  Of course, one wouldn't expect it to last forever either, that totally makes sense, just the amount of regeneration times said was quite low, like 3-6 times or something.  If anyone has heard more about this, or can confirm this info, pls do :)
