I replaced the main gasket and I still have a slow leak in that area.  Buying a new filter is not in my budget.

Any idea how I can improve the current seal safely?

Is there a hair line crack maybe. Have you lubed the gasket with anything.

I have used Plumber's Silicone on my filters in the past.

I was able to get the main gasket for free at big als, they had a kit minus the little orings that they just gave me.  Turns out, the leak is actually from the small o rings.  Luckily I was able to pick up a pair at crappy tire for 2.50.  Ended up using a tiny bit of lithium grease on them, couldn't find a safe silicone grease in my fathers garage.  Just replaced the little o rings, now hoping no more leaks so my carpet can dry out.  I had a container under the filter but it over flowed a little a few times.
