I did  a change out of substrate and introduced argonite  to a tank that formally held angels.  Kept all media.  This was done on Thursday  evening reading where good so I dosed with a little ammonia at 2ppm
On Sunday.  This afternoon I  have 1ppm ammonia and . 5 nitrite.  Should I  wait one more day and do a water change or do one tonight and see where the reading are tomorrow

So 47 people have viewed  the post I though I  would update.  I did a water change this morning and the levels have stabilized.  I think the tank is in a mini cycle. Never had one before but stuff happens.

Just seen this.

Mike glad things are doing better. When I have done fishless cycle, I measure and add ammonia so 1-2ppm when I put int he tank once things are finished then next morning there is never any ammonia.

The fact that you are getting nitrates is good. How are your nitrites?

Did a 50 % water change yesterday evening and tested this morning ammonia at 0 nitrites at. 25. I'm  thinking I'm going to dose tonight at 1-2 ppm and see.  Regardless I  will be adding 3 gold heads juries at less then  an inch so I  feel confident  that the tank as it stands will hold them without a problem. I  will monitor  daily and do water changes  as needed.  Does that sound right?

your tank is not cycled till you read 0 Ammonia and 0 Nitrite the following morning. As a side effect your Nitrate will be higher.

If Nitrite gets too high it can stall the cycle so it just keeps going up... things can be a pita...

Good luck. I'd do a good water change before adding fish and then keep an eye on things. To speed things up you can also take the dirty filters from an existing tank and rinse them for cleanout in a buck of take water then add this to the tank you are cycling. This will ensure the good Bactria are all there and seaded to build a nice strong colony.
