Helping hands from Montreal Auction goers

It occurs to me that the timing of this event coincides with an aquarium project of mine.

I obtained a 350 gallon tank last fall which was delivered with a broken bottom by the movers (not insured). It has been sitting on its stand outside my front door since that time & I have been told by my very patient companion that it must be repaired this spring or sledge-hammered into a thousand pieces & carted to the curb in garbage pails. (Due to weight restrictions, I calculate that it would require 16 of them.) I prefer to fix it!

The first stage of the repair requires that the tank be turned on its side so that the broken glass can be removed. I require 5 helpers to accomplish this task. Would any fellow club members who are attending the auction be willing to meet at my house at 6:40 AM. before going on to Tim Horton's in order to assist me? I reside about 8 blocks from Tim's.  Once people are assembled, the task should not take more than five minutes!

I am prepared to go out tomorrow to rent glass 'handles' in order to make the task easier. Please email or phone me if you can be counted on as a member of the "coaliton of the willing". I will ensure that everyone involved gets directions to my place & free coffee & doughnuts at Tim's afterwards. Please help me if you can by posting   on this board, sending me an email, or phoning me with your name & telephone number so that I can determing if there is enough manpower available. I will contact all interested parties tomorrow evening to confirm that the event is ON.

I tried to get this project going last fall but did not manage to get enough hands together at the same time. I am hoping that I have better luck this time.

Thanks!

I had similar responce when I needed help, it's a shame..but it's sad to say..but you almost have to go by the thought well, next time someone needs a hand with something I will remember who helped me..not saying everyone is unhelpful as I have had a few people help me out from the club in the past with various things, but it would be nice to see more "teamwork" from some of the members

I would have loved to help but unfortunately I was bagging fish and packing the car early Sunday morning before the Auction.

Thanks to all wellwishers on my tank tip project. It seems there were only a few Montreal Auction attendees this time & 6:40 AM is such an ungodly hour! Standby all. I will try again.

it would be a shame to smash that tank.  I recall it's quite the beast.   I dont think it would take 6 of us to put it on its side.   have you considered using assistance with mechanical means (trucks, pulleys,  winches, come alongs etc)

saltydog

It took 6 movers to get it here (breaking it in the process on a staircase) so it seems prudent to have that number to tip it even though this is a lot less arduous. Also, I wouldn't want anyone to be hurt in the process. I guesstimate the weight to be 800 pounds! In my mind, straps or glass suction handles are the only aids possible in the circumstances.

I was just telling my husband about your situation, he's able to help. Just let us know when, we are just in Orleans, not far from you.

HI Roger, If lcoates husband is going I will send my husband to help you also since we live a few doors away from her.  Just let us know when.
