Increasing light on my hood?

I am thinking of moving my 75gal planted tank to my 25gal tank (going African Chichlids, I can't resist it any longer  :D ).  Is there any way I can increase the light output on my Light-Glow hood?  It takes a 24" 20W fluorescent bulb.

Retrofit it with a 55w cf retrofit kit. But you'll need a waterproof cap for it.

Waterproof endcaps for 2G11 bulbs are nearly impossible to find.  The kits that do come with them have the caps hard wired directly to the ballast.

A standard endcap is sufficient as long as you are using a proper glass top and you wire and ground everything correctly.

I've been using 55 W CF bulbs on one of my tanks for the better part of two years now, and there isn't a trace of rust anywhere

The problem is the style of tank. Looking at the hood I immediately know that it's one of the seamless Hagen tanks. You'd have to be crafty to rig something for that involving a glass top which is why I suggested the endcap. Though I didn't know they were so hard to come by.

Maybe fitting the glass directly ONTO the hood and not the tank top?  You will need to drill some vents into the cover, but that's do-able.  This could lead to a bad air exchange with the water, but a few air bubblers can do the trick...

Mettle is right, there is no glass between the lamp and the water.  I am looking at a couple of retrofit kits (Coralife and Current USA) that have "moisture resistant endcaps".  Would that be adequate?  Is there a recommended brand of retro kit?  Thanks

Even with water proof end caps, all companies will issue a disclaimer saying their product should not be used over open water.  And with good reason... it can be very dangerous

I guess I'll just have to read darkdep's DIY canopy report.   :)
