So far, from the aquriums that I've seen from going to peoples homes.......Their big tanks is filtered by a Fluval of some sort.   Has anyone ever rigged a Fluval to filter two smaller tanks?

darkdep

General consensus from many conversations I've participated in on this topic:  WAY too much trouble, too much risk of disaster.

FishBuddy

I agreed with DD....  It is always a risk when you use a single filter (therefore, a single point of failure!) to service multiple smaller tanks....

On top of that, not to mention the potential spread of diseases from one tank to another :-(

I have, however, have seen someone uses 2 slightly smaller canisters to service a single tank.....

Nothing wrong with multiple filters on one tank at all.  Many people do that (including me).

One filter for multiple tanks, ignoring the disease / single point of failure issues, is just the physical issues of getting the flow correct to keep water in both tanks at proper levels.  If anything gets even slightly out of whack, you're gonna get one empty tank and one overflowing onto the floor.

FishBuddy

Absolutely agreed with you DD....

About the multiple filters for one tank, I think it's a great idea...  One of my friends has that in his tank and one day, one of the filters quit on him while he was gone for the weekend...  Thank God for the second filter to keep things going :-)  As a matter of fact, I am thinking of adding a second filter to my tanks (perhaps a HOB one)....

Ok, tanks for the info

fishbuddy:  I'm a big believer in multiple filters for bigger tanks, for sure.  I think everything 55 or bigger is much better off with multiple filters.

Unless you have a Fluval FX5 :D

sylvain

I use multiple filters on each of my tank, better have more filtration that not enough, plus it gives me the liberty of cleaning one complete filter without messing up my bacteria colony. Here's what I have.

220 gal. = 4 eheim 2028 pro II
150 gal. = 3 eheim 2028 pro II
 90 gal. = 2 eheim 2028 pro II
