Fluval 405 ??

Just saw one of these at petsmart tonight.  It looks like a more expensive and unneeded replacement for the (much cheaper) fluval 404.  It was about $230 (+/-) while the 404 is usually on sale for about $160 (+/-).

Any idea if it's going to replace the 404 series?

Yup, the '05s will be replacing the '04s.  We dont' have them in yet... but they'll be in soon.  From what I understand, there weren't many changes.

If there is a newer number as a suffix, then it is the new series, fluval always replaces their filters with a new generation, so if you like the '04 series, then grab them on sale where you can, as parts will be scarce for them in a few years.

the Fluval 404's were on sale last week at SP Merivale for $139 I think
I assume these were the second revision of the 04 series, which means they have the funky rubber band type tank rim adapter and the double action canister lockdown clips

I was at SupetPet in Barhaven the other day and the 404's wer $320 and the other 04's were prices at about twice their normal price!!!!  About 2 weeks ago I talked to someone there about the obvious mistake but it looks like nothing was done about it.

that is not a mistake. the 404 is now around 299.99. Fluval raised the price. All the line-up or 04's have been raised. The 05's are basically the same except they use 1w less of power.

That's insane - and I hope wrong.  Considering you can get an FX5 for $30 bucks more!  All the other Superpets have them at $139.

Definitely. I know a gentleman (a member here who signs on ocassionally) who uses them and he loves them! His only complaint was regarding the polishing pads compacting, which I believe he's resolved now. He also had to create his own spraybar attachment as Fluval hasn't come out with one yet for the FX5.

This is one killer filter with a lot of potential. Worth the money? I'd say if you have that kinda cash to spend - I'd go for it.

As for the '04 series issues at the SP Barrhaven location - I'll talk to someone about that next time I'm in. I know that Hagen has recently incurred higher manufacturing costs for a lot of their stock and unfortunately this is being passed on in some respects to the stores and then to the consumers. It's not just the stores trying to milk more money out of you.

Reality check people.

Fluval 404 cost price is $165, I checked and saw the book.

SuperPet sells them for $139 right now, of witch is way below cost.
A month ago, it was $119 from what I have been told over the week end.

You guys have it so good in this area, and you have no idea.

SO ! the New 405 for $230 + / - is not out of line with reality.

whats the output for the 405? If the 405 is going to sell for $230 and the output is one third the fx5... fx5 is an awesome deal for the larger tanks for sure.. 
I have no complaints so far with my fx5! Well it did cost about $30 for the carbon,biomax and prefilter. Certainly is silent for such a large filter.

The current prices at SP Barrhaven for the Fluval 04 series are the same as for the other stores. All reduced prices. That's what they scanned in at today. The proper signage for the items will be up either tonight or tomorrow to correct this problem/oversight folks!
