A great evening has been planned for our November meeting!

Mark your calendars for November 26th, as this meeting has been made into the Xmas event.

A special dinner menu has been put together by Greenfields Pub in Barrhaven. The dinner tickets are available through online payment http://ovas.ca/ovas/?p=1381, or by contacting the or .

The tickets are $15 for members, $20 for non-members.
The address for Greenfields Pub is 900 Greenbank Rd, Barrhaven
Dinner is at 6:00p.m.

The presenter will be no other than Frank Aguire who will talk about the Most Beautiful Aquariums in the World.

Synopsis:
This presentation explains what it takes to reach the highest level possible in aquariology. When science and art melt together in a perfect combination the results can be explosive to the eye.  Impressive and breath taking the aquariums chosen to be part of this presentation were found around the planet in a continuous effort to remind aquarist of all levels that the dream is possible, alive and well.

His bio

Frank has been a tropical fish enthusiast since the age of five. He began by helping his mother raise pond goldfish in his homeland of Mexico. He set up his first aquarium at age seven. By the age of ten, he became an assistant at a small aquarium shop. During his teenage years, he learned the techniques and "secrets" of breeding from master breeders in Mexico City. In preparation for his career choice as a biologist, he went to the Polytechnic College in Mexico to study aquaculture. He then pursued a bachelor's degree in Biology. His ultimate academic goal is to obtain a Masters Degree in Ichthyology at Guelph University.

His life has been dedicated entirely to the study of fishes, with particular emphasis on reproduction and genetics. After publishing many papers and articles in a variety of magazines, Frank's next project, a book on tropical fish is a logical step. His repertoire varies widely in topic, ranging from the common to the unusual. As the president of Acuaprof Inc. Frank is now fully integrated in to the aquarium business and supporting the hobby trough his activities as member of the Canadian Association of aquarium Clubs CAOAC

what about kids? 6 year olds

Well, there are a couple of options available. Either you divide one of the special meal between them or you can pick from the existing Greenfields child menu which would not be subsidized by OVAS. They are cheaper in general, and i think, price wise, it might come to the same dollar amount as a divided Xmas meal as the member's price.

Hope this answers your question!

But the real question is..... are they fresh or salt? Will everyone be fairly represented?

Hope everyone's getting hungry!

Hello,

I was a member many years ago - just curious if you still have "mini" fish and equipment auctions at the end of the meetings and would there be one at the November meeting.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg, we have now gone to a swap meet style at the meetings, honestly i have not seen a lot of livestock at meeting, hope to see you out to the meetings.
Welcome back to the hobby.

A big thanks to all who joined us last night, special thanks to our 3 time guest speaker Frank Aguirre for another excellent presentation, it was a joy to drool over those Monster salt water tanks, the design & final look of those tanks are nothing short of spectacular. Of course we have to thank Greenfields who graciously accommodated us with their excellent meal, service ,& use of their PA & Screen.
The after meeting  cool down was also a plus  ;).
Congrats to all the prize winners.

Thank you for organizing such a great event. I was the lucky winner of the 10g tank. It's an awesome prize and I am already planning how to best use it.

ajm1961

Great stuff Eric. It was nice to meet and talk at the event.
Best of luck with the new tank!
