So I set up a Fluval Edge last year just after Christmas and added some CRS not long after. However I was never seeing babies. I got lots of cherry shrimp babies but no CRS young. I recently removed the CPDs that I had in there as I wanted it to be a shrimp only tank. Well that was apparently the problem as tonight I managed to find 6 extremely small CRS! I'm pretty happy about it and was amazed at the colours of such small shrimp!

I bought an edge at the same time as you with the intention of setting it up as a shrimp tank and it's still sitting in my storage room in the basement in the box. I've got to get moving on that setup, thanks for the post and the catalyst.
I haz reef tanks.

Good stuff Jeff congrats, i find that once they settle down & start breeding , it`s a constant production line  :)
@ Stuart, i wish i had your patience ;D

Fishnut

I wonder why it was specifically the CRS shrimp?  The white making them more visible?

What one man considers patience another man considers procrastination :)

In my defence I flew 42 segments this year and didnt have allot of free time.

I have everything I need to set it up...I just need to set it up.

How many adult sized CRS did you have before you saw fry?  I have a shrimp only tank I just started with only to CRS and was lucky to have bought a male and female its been running for 2.5 months and currently have 5 fry from those 2 I started with. Looks pretty neat with the tiny shrimp makes the adults look massive! Keep up the good work man!

Thanks for the comments. I have 4 adults in there right now. I find myself going to look in the tank constantly to do a baby count. There may very well be more in there as I have a number of densely planted spots that I can't see through.

Fishnut - I was also stumped as to why I wasn't getting babies but I figured maybe my water parameters were out. But now that the fish are gone and babies are showing up that was obviously the problem. However, why all the CRS babies were getting picked off while RCS babies were surviving is a mystery. My only guess was maybe their colouration made them easier to find to eat??

RCS are warriors of the shrimp family  ;D, just last week i thought i had removed all of the RCS from my Hagen 59 gallon before going to Ohio & drained the tank, to my surprise on inspecting the almost dry substrate ( damp & no puddles) in the tank, i saw a few RCS walking on land ( the damp substrate) i yanked them & placed them in the new tank & they quickly swimmed out of the container, these guys are tougher than we give them credit for.
